KRISTI RYBA: Visual Artist

Inspired by vintage objects and my family’s vintage photographs, I explore the meaning of family and the gendered messages and myths surrounding traditional women’s roles. I make paintings based on the iconography and ideals of Medieval and Renaissance altarpieces and manuscripts, prints, stop motion videos, books and costumes from vintage 1940 patterns, and photo digital collages of rooms in period metal dollhouses. I place myself inside wearing the costumes and performing "woman's work."
